Off to New York today for a work thing. Had trouble getting to sleep, and ended up getting maybe three hours of sleep. Which is why I dozed off on the train and missed the first twenty minutes of my first meeting. Hey, I needed the sleep, I guess! Still didn't get enough.
Went out that night with a group of friends for dinner at The Counter at Times Square, which is basically just a glorified burger joint. I will say that the martinis that I had were really tasty....and really strong. I wasn't feeling much pain by the end of the night.
Spent the evening at the Affinia Manhattan, which isn't the fanciest hotel in Manhattan, but it's actually my favorite. The rooms are shaped rather oddly and it's clear that it has humble origins, but it's right across from Penn Station and a half a mile from work. I like the simplicity of the travel, quite frankly, and it's really clean, the beds are really comfy, and it's central to all the places I like to go to. Plus, they've tried to dress things up with a kitschy design. My room had a secret study that was hidden from the rest of the room by a curtain, and I thought that was kind of cool. Plus, you have to love that you can wake up at 7:30 and just walk across the street to catch an 8:00 train.
Overall, nice day of travel. I'd give it an B plus day in New York
