"Dad, I swear to you, MacKenzie had just texted me before I left and told me to keep an eye out for her dad's white truck, and not to be late. That's all I was focused on when I left work," he said. "I never would have ignored Corb like that! If I had seen him, I would have gone up to him and let him know I was going to her house."
Although it's kind of hard NOT to notice a big tall blond man in a really small car, I can actually see it happening. Theo's like me, and when we are focused on something, we can be a bit single-minded.
I especially believe it after hearing Josie talk about his eye doctor's appointment today. The kid's eyesight is getting worse, and the doctor says he is a huge risk for dislocating his cornea at some point. He has stated on several occasions that if Theo starts seeing white flashes out of his eye, to see him immediately.
So, crisis averted. The next step, however, was to convince Corb of this. I immediately called him up and explained that I spoke to Theo and believed him, and explained my reasoning. To his credit, Corb felt that if I believed Theo that was enough for him and made it a point to tell Theo this the first thing, when he arrived home.
Such a mountain out of a molehill. I guess it goes to show that we simply can't just to conclusions about these things, and perhaps we are more hyper-aware about it than we need to be. There's something to learn from that, I think.
Anyway, it's good to know that we are still loved.
