Plus, we had the added the stress of having the kids a majority of the weekend, since Josie went away to Maine with the girls.
So how did we do? I think, overall, pretty well. We did have one rough section toward the end of Saturday night, on the way to take care of the animals at Josie's house. By that point, we had had the kids since nine in the morning, and the day had been filled with a lot of decisions and tension (between the cable guy coming, Ashley's therapist appointment, moving clothes closets, getting stuff for the apartment), and Ashley was on her hundredth tantrum, and as Corb said earlier in the day, "You've got to keep in mind, this is a big adjustment for me."
So I snapped at something he said, and he took offense, and we didn't talk to each other for about a half an hour, until we returned back to the apartment, and then we both found an excuse to go outside into his car, and talk things over, and we both ended up crying and telling each other how much we loved each other, and hugging each other, and yes, everything was much better after that. It was really our first big disagreement in six months, and it wasn't really a fight, more than a period of silence.
But that was the low point (and, in some ways the high point, because it just reinforced, to me, how much we love each other). There were many high points: Friday night (I won't get into why), watching the Sponge Bob Squarepants movie with the kids (it was just so-so, and reminded me again of the fact that David Hasselhoff is a terrible actor: he was more wooden than the surfboard he was playing!), snuggling on the couch last night watching a Hallmark movie, and my favorite: letting Ashley bungy cord in the mall. She was quite nervous as they strapped her in, but had a terrific time, and I think she'll have that memory with her for some time to come.
